Meet Aaron Li, Founder of Maple Sourcing
I’m Aaron Li. I founded Maple Sourcing in Shenzhen in 2012, after 15 years working inside Chinese factories in manufacturing and quality control roles. Today my team helps importers across the US, UK, Australia, and Europe source, develop, and inspect products in China. I still review client projects personally, and I stand behind every article published under my name on this site.
From the Factory Floor to Maple Sourcing
Before I started this company, I spent a decade and a half on the other side of the table. I worked in production and quality control, sat through supplier negotiations, and watched thousands of orders move from drawing to container. That time taught me exactly where orders go wrong: a sample that looks perfect while the production run quietly drifts, a material substitution nobody mentions, a delivery date that slips one week at a time.
I also kept meeting overseas buyers who had no way to see any of this. They chose suppliers from photos and chat messages, paid deposits, and hoped. Some got lucky. Many did not.
Maple Sourcing exists to close that gap. Since 2012, we have acted as our clients’ own team in China: finding and verifying suppliers, managing production, and inspecting goods before they ship. Our clients keep their focus on selling. We handle what happens inside the factory.
What Fifteen Years in Manufacturing Taught Me
Quality is decided on the production line, not at the port: By the time goods are packed and ready to ship, it is too late to fix most problems. That is why we push inspections early, starting when production is only 5-20% complete, so issues are caught while they can still be corrected.
A factory visit tells you more than a price list: The cheapest quote is often the one resting on the most unstated assumptions, and they surface only after production begins. Walking the floor, checking the machines, and meeting the actual production team reveals what a quotation never will.
Transparency keeps everyone honest: We quote our quality inspections at a flat all-inclusive day rate, break down product costs line by line, and report problems to clients as we find them. Bad news delivered early is far cheaper than bad news delivered at the port.
Milestones I Am Proud Of
Ooni: Maple Sourcing has supported Ooni’s China production across multiple pizza oven accessory lines as the brand grew from a crowdfunded project into a global name in outdoor cooking.
Global Sources: Our company is verified and recommended by Global Sources, one of the most established B2B sourcing platforms in Asia.
300+ clients since 2012: From first-time importers placing their first order to established brands moving serious volume, across the US, UK, Australia, and Europe.
SGS and Intertek: We maintain long-standing working relationships with both testing organizations, allowing our clients to access third-party laboratory testing at below-list pricing.

How I Work Today
I remain hands-on in daily operations. I review client projects, work directly with our senior inspectors, many of whom bring more than ten years of experience, and set the standards every report must meet. We negotiate with factories in Chinese, report to clients in clear English, and usually reply to new inquiries within one business day.

Guides I Have Written
I share what I have learned from both sides of China sourcing in our guides. A few places to start:
